Transit Time Lapse

Standing on the slopes of Medicine Lake Volcano, Calif., at chimney crater in the relatively small shadow cast by the moon, the rare coincidence in the orbit of the moon and sun was captured by Mike Krawczynski (EAPS PhD 2011), who studies both terrestrial and lunar volcanics.

The time lapse video spans 185 individual frames taken over approximately two hours. Mike Krawczynski is a currently a postdoctoral scholar at Case Western Reserve University in experimental geochemistry.
