MIT's Brass Rat: A Vietnam War ring mystery

A Brass Rat — MIT's class ring — was returned to the United States with the effects of a Marine killed in combat on March 16, 1968. However, this soldier, Stephen Adams, had no connection to the Institute.

What is known about the ring? It is for a graduate student who received a Master's of Science degree. The ring contains the initials J.T.M. Research using the alumni database reveals no clear answer as to who owned this ring.
