Community Water Solutions: Empowering Women Entrepreneurs to End the World Water Crisis

Community Water Solutions is an MIT-founded non-profit that empowers women in Ghana to launch profitable water businesses. CWS was founded in 2008 by Kate Clopeck (TPP '09) and fellow MIT graduate student Vanessa Green (MEng '08 and MBA '11). Originally funded by the Public Service Center, the Legatum Center and the Millennium Campus Challenge, CWS has — over the past five years — launched 49 water businesses in Ghana which empower 98 local women and provide permanent access to safe drinking water to over 28,000 people in rural villages.
