                         	<title><![CDATA[Conversation with Lydia Villa-Komaroff]]></title>

                         	<description><![CDATA[&lt;p&gt;Lydia Villa-Komaroff grew up in a large Mexican-American family in New Mexico. She received her PhD from the MIT Dept. of Biology, where she worked with David Baltimore and Harvey Lodish on Polio virus.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;She did her postdoctoral training at Harvard where she also worked with Walter Gilbert on recombinant DNA. She is a founding member of SACNAS, the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;She has held numerous positions in academia, both as a faculty at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, the Harvard Medical School and Northwestern University, and as a top administrator at Northwestern University and the Whitehead Institute (vice president of research and chief operating officer). She is currently chief executive officer of Cytonome, Inc. (optical cell sorting systems), a biotech company in Boston.&lt;/p&gt;
